With the promotion of Premier League debutants Brighton and Huddersfield Town from the Championship this season, it takes the top flight tally to 49 clubs since the rebrand.
After the Premier League broke from the Football League back in 1992, when Match Week 1 of 2017/18 is complete, there will have been a total of 49 clubs that have spent time in our top division – each which varying success.
We continue to have ever presents in the Premier League but that number shrunk with Aston Villa’s departure the other year, but we wait to see whether or not the number of clubs with only one season grows this time round.
Brighton have been in the top flight previously – four seasons in fact – but that was back in the early 1980s whilst Huddersfield are former three time First Division winners in the 1920s although they last graced the top division back in 1972.
With a nod to Talksport for most of the legwork, I have corrected league finishes when errors were made, but if I’ve missed any through my own stupidity, let me know in article comments and I shall thank you in advance.
