The charismatic Brentford boss Martin Allen was disappointed by the result but is still confident that the Bees will be in the mix for automatic promotion at the end of the season.

‘I understand and it’s the same for me and the players, the disappointment and frustration at not winning.

‘They put a lot of effort into that game and I thought they played well. When you concede in the 89th minute I’d imagine the players will need lifting, of course. It was a big blow. And when they’ve put in so much effort and played that way, it�s hard for them, and the supporters of course and myself. But the only people that can do that is ourselves.

‘I don’t know if it will go to the wire. I’m not Mystic Meg. All I care about is good performance and winning. That’s all I care about. I haven’t been happy for the last few games, but I made a lot of changes and it was a good response.

With three games to go we are right in there with everything to play for.’

Seasiders’ manager Simon Grayson unsurprisingly was delighted with the result, but was also not shocked that his team had picked up points in the Easter program against two of the leagues top teams.

‘I’m delighted to pick four points up in two very tough games over Easter, but I’d said all along that although this tough run of fixtures we’d got was worrying a few people, they didn’t worry me.

‘You might think it’s easy for me to say that now, after we’ve got great results against Swansea and Brentford, but believe me I was saying that prior to this weekend.

‘The reason? I always knew that there was a different kind of pressure for the teams at the top. They have to win these games. Nobody expected us to come to Brentford and get a point but we have done it.

He went on to say that until its mathematically impossible for the Seasiders to get relegated the hard work will continue.

‘It’s another point towards the target but until we are mathematically safe, we’ve got to continue to prepare correctly.

‘But the good news is that the games are running out for the teams below us and if we can get a result against Barnsley next weekend, then we should be there.’
