Academy graduate Tom Barkhuizen has now met with manager Lee Clark and he is the first we know about that has been released this summer.

With Clark being adamant that talks would be held with each player following the Huddersfield match – the manner of that abandonment hasn’t changed his plans and the 21 year old is one of a number of players that have now been told they won’t be offered new deals.

The official retained and released list is yet to be announced though so we’ll probably hear something every day.

As for Barkhuizen, he’s been at Bloomfield Road since the age of 14 and in total he leaves Blackpool having made eight starting appearances with a further 19 from the bench.

In that time he has scored twice, but fared better out on loan with Hereford, Fleetwood and most recently Morecambe last October and his career tally stands at 51 starts, 34 from the bench with a return of 15 goals.

It’s now speculated Morecambe will return for him.

His last appearance for us came in the loss to Fulham in April.

The news was first announced via his Twitter feed where he explained.

‘I just want to say thanks to the fans at Blackpool for your support over the last 6 years. I feel it’s the right time for me to move on and get my career back on track after a difficult year for me personally. I am looking forward to the next stage in my career and am excited to see where it will take me. All the best in the future’
