Blackpool FC President Valery Belokon has admitted that he is upset by the delay in opening the Jimmy Armfield South Stand, which is perhaps not surprising when you consider that it’s his money that is building it!

However, he admitted that delays can occur during such work – citing the new Wembley Stadium as one such example.

‘Of course, like all normal people I would like all my initiatives to be implemented as quickly as possible,’ he told the paper.

‘It would be quite strange if I was uninterested or uncaring about the completion of the Jimmy Armfield stand, so yes, I am a little bit upset (that it’s not already open), but so were the organisers who were in charge of the Wembley reconstruction.

‘They had unlimited resources but completed the work almost a year later than planned – in March 2007 instead of May 2006.

‘Visually, the stand has almost acquired its complete shape and I can confidently say that the whole work will soon be done.

‘Hopefully I will be able to attend the opening ceremony, but I would not like the ceremony to be delayed because I was not able to come to Blackpool on a given date.’
