Blackpool are looking at a number of trialist this pre-season, and they turned out in the win over Penrith on Saturday.

Trialists are, extensively, part and parcel of pre-season really, however Paul Ince doesn’t feel that the Tangerines should be having to look at so many of them.

Ince told the official website: ‘All the trialists did ever so well, but we’re a Championship club, and with no disrespect to anyone, we shouldn’t really be looking at trialists.

‘We should be looking at proven players, players who we know about but because of the way things are at the moment, that’s what we’ve had to do.

‘All you can do is give them a chance, but I want to start pushing to get a squad of 18 or 19 players who I can trust and who will be there throughout the season.’

Caleb Folan, Rob Edwards, Charles Dunne, Emmitt Delfouneso, Andre Blackman and Ibrahim Diaby all turned out in the 2-0 win, sealed by goals from familiar sources Matt Phillips and Tom Ince, both of whom could still move on before the season kicks off?

Pre-season may well be, like I’ve said, the place for trialists but Ince does have a point, this shouldn’t really be with the eye of actually putting together the squad, merely finalising it!
