Blackpool are believed to have offered a club record £500,000 for Real Sociedad’s Welsh international David Vaughan.

Vaughan, a product of the legendary Crewe Alexandra Academy, made his debut for the first team in 2000 at home against Blackburn Rovers. However he did not feature again in the first team until the following season when he made 16 appearances.

Equally comfortable at either left back or in midfield his performances quickly caught the attention of the Welsh F.A. and David was soon making regular appearances for the Under 20 and Under 21 sides. His full senior debut came in 2003 in the U.S.A.

A popular character at the Alex Vaughan was nicknamed the ‘Welsh Wizard’ for his ability to beat his man, provide incisive passes for the strikers and hit spectacular strikes from long range.

He was linked with a number of clubs before fellow Welshman Chris Coleman signed him for Real Sociedad for £300,000 last summer. Coleman’s reign in Spain lasted only a few months and Vaughan struggled to become a regular member of the side, making only seven starts in 2007-8.

With Vaughan rumoured to be keen to return to England the opportunity for the Spanish side to bank a healthy profit on the deal could well see him join the Seasiders in a record breaking move.
