Blackpool need to make a point

All of a sudden the reality of the relegation dogfight has become very apparent for BFC.

Most of us walking into Bloomfield Road on Saturday expected three points to virtually guarantee our survival. But Blackpool don’t do things the easy way. Instead another poor performance resulted in another defeat at home; our tenth of the season.

So with just five games left how many more points will we get? According to our poll 37 per cent of you reckon we will get another six to eight points which would surely be enough to survive.

32 per cent say we will only get another three to five points which may or may not be enough to stay up.

We should know a bit more by tomorrow night. Barnsley travel to Sheffield United in the first of their two games in hand on us. Meanwhile cash-strapped Southampton play Watford at Vicarage Road in their game in hand. Fingers crossed for two home wins. Certainly a defeat for Southampton would make it very difficult for the Saints to catch the Seasiders with the difference being seven points.

But where will we get those six to eight points we need to survive? Who knows what could happen in the derby on Saturday. Preston’s home record is excellent, but our away form is good. Reading on Easter Monday looks tough especially so given our poor home form. But the Royals have slipped up on several occasions in the last few weeks.

The final three games see Pool travel to a resurgent but surely doomed Charlton, play host to Nottingham Forest in a potential six-pointer, and finish at the Liberty against play-off chasers Swansea.

Five hard games stand between Blackpool and survival. It’s very much in our own hands. Play like we did against Plymouth and relegation could become reality. But up the performance levels and we should be okay. But this is Blackpool, who knows…
