Blackpool Relegated On Cruel Final Day

I’ll keep this short because this is obviously a very difficult match report to write, plus unless you’ve been under a gigantic rock of some sort, you’ll be all too aware of the events of earlier as Blackpool were relegated back to the Championship after a 4-2 defeat to Manchester United.

The Seasiders played their hearts out against the champions, but ultimately fell just short of survival.

The game was a pulsating one, with both sides having numerous chances throughout. Despite going down, ‘Pool were entertaining to the last.

United took the lead when Park Ji-Sung made the most of a defensive error to poke the hosts ahead. The Korean was a surprise starter as United named a very strong side for the game despite next week’s Champions League Final. The Seasiders meanwhile were unchanged.

However, as we all know, ‘Pool have a never say die attitude, and a brilliant Charlie Adam freekick brought them level.

‘Pool them took the lead early in the second half when Gary Taylor-Fletcher scored a brilliant goal.

Just minutes laters though, United were level was Anderson thumped the ball home.

An Ian Evatt own goal then made it 3-2 before Michael Owen sealed it late on.

A disappointing day, but we can hold our heads high; the Premier League will miss us.

Same here. Villa fan in peace. Not a Holloway fan by any means (he needs to learn to control his gob and show some respect), but I really like your team, and you’ve got a great set of fans. I watched your game and I have to say you were giving your all, and on another day you could have got something. Anderson’s goal was the big blow I feel as you’re steadfast defending fell away for a few crucial seconds & knocked the wind out of you. Not many teams go to OT and score 2 classy goals like that – at times you ripped them to pieces. Huge effort though, and you should be proud of your lads. Good luck next year, and hope you can keep the core of your team together (Adam aside, obviously).

cant believe your editor has deleted my post just because it didnt say how brilliant you are-no swearing and not offensive -pathetic

I’m one Villa fan who couldn’t be happier that your down, when all your fans could do was come on the Villa site and spout bull*****, you really need to learn to keep your mouths shut! and the tosspot that is holloway needs to learn some respect, you had a great start to the season, we had a bad one (no manager) but to say we have no history and no team was stupid on your part, we had a very very bad season and finished 9th, you had a good season and went down! in future keep your piehole shut, you just don’t know when it will come back and bite you on the ass, and now we will have Charlie Adams if we want him and there’s ***** all holoway can do about it this time!

Sad to see you go down yesterday – but what a ride you had … absolutely brilliant to see a team of small stature going up against the likes of Liverpool and Villa and giving em a strapping – good luck next year and see you at Elland Rd

Bad luck guys, that it came down to the last day of the season is a testament to how good a go you gave it. The Premier League will miss Blackpool, hope you enjoyed the ride!

I was truely hoping Blackpool would stay up – always enjoyed watching your games. The Premier League would be better with Ian Holloway’s post match interviews as well. Hopefully you will be back in the Prem soon.

fifthcolumnblue – talk to Ian Holloway about ‘gracious’ – he slagged us off and now getting his just desserts, although most of us have got nothing against the majority of their fans. And simonfire1 – Villa got a win and a draw against Blackpool – not quite sure how that qualifies as getting a ‘strapping’?

Shame Blackpool couldn’t defend aswell as they attacked , All clubs could bomb on and look entertaining , Yet concede as many as you did only shows that side of your team is still championship class , Thanks for being a promoted side showing some balls and giving it a go , Keep as many as you can and im sure the premiership will be back at Bloomfield road sooner rather than later !

  • ODDJOB79 says:

Oh and IAN HOLLOWAY – LEGEND hahaha

  • ODDJOB79 says:

Villa have a good history but your not a big club , if you were why is Ashely Young leaving you and Downing wont commit to a new contract ? , I think Adam would choose Everton or Liverpool way ahead of Villa !
