Blackpool lost their third game in five today as they succumb to a convincing 3-0 defeat at Cardiff City.

Two goals from Matthew Connolly and a Peter Whittingham freekick sunk the Seasiders, who made a host of changes to the side that lost against Huddersfield Town on Monday night.

A staggering seven different faces were on show despite manager Ian Holloway claiming there would not be a ‘knee-jerk’ reaction.

Kevin and Matt Phillips were both given starts alongside Nouha Dicko but without Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Tom Ince, Pool lack impetus going forward.

There had been a relaxed attitude around Squires Gate in the last few weeks, with players being given extended time off pre-Huddersfield, but Holloway must now surely be rethinking his methods with this season’s squad.

He will no doubt want to do some extra training on set pieces, with his defence all at sea from them in Wales.

‘In the last two games we have passed and moved and Cardiff’s crowd were on top of their team at the start, but goals change games and that’s what Cardiff did,’ Holloway said.

‘The goals we conceded weren’t good enough from our point of view. Cardiff played well but they won’t score easier goals in their lives than those they got against us.

‘We had a spell like this last season so we just have to put our heads down and get through it.’
