With various stories circulating that Blackpool are about to lose Wes Hoolahan, Kaspars Gorkss and Stephen Crainey for a combined fee of £750,000 due to the release clauses in their contracts, we have been looking at the players who are rumoured to be lined up for moves to the seaside.

First off it looks like former loanee left back Chris Armstrong is likely to be shown the door by Sheffield United. With the loss of both Paul Tierney and John Hills Blackpool could do a lot worse than look to bring Armstrong back on a permanent deal.

Next up Paul Wootton (above) the defender/midfielder released by Plymouth Argyle. Recently beset by injuries he has attracted the interest of a number of clubs including Leeds United and Brighton. However is he any better than the midfielders we currently have?

Chris Taylor’s name has done the rounds in recent days with rumours that an offer in excess of £500k would seal a deal for the Oldham left winger. Ideal replacement for our Irish international? Most certainly.

Two strikers who have been mentioned as possible targets are Liam Dickinson of Play-Off winners Stockport, and former Latic Chris Killen currently at Glasgow Celtic. The fees quoted – £750k and £1m respectively – would be a significant increase on our current record signing of £300k for Stephen McPhee, and if true would signal a departure from Blackpool’s almost legendary transfer strategy!

So are we to see the Seasiders finally splash the cash in a bid to survive in the Championship beyond the all important second season? Or is this merely paper talk and we will see the predictable influx of frees and loanees assemble for business at Bloomfield Road in the coming weeks?
