Blackpool are faced with a big challenge as they take on Gillingham in today’s league one clash.

Things have been looking slightly better in recent games for Pool but Gillingham will be a real test for McDonald’s young side.

Gillingham have been having a fine season so far, as Justin Edinburgh’s men currently sit in 2nd place.

Ideally Blackpool need to keep the momentum going by picking up a result, but certainly the three fixtures after this, two against Oldham and one against Shrewsbury, are more important.

Vital Quotes:

Neil McDonald spoke to the official site: ‘The progress is there but we’re still in a precarious position, we still have to work hard and defend the way we have been doing. We also need to get back to a little bit of clinical finishing, like we did against Scunthorpe.’

Justin Edinburgh told the Gills official site: ‘We`ve got a tough game on Saturday away at a vastly improving team. They haven`t conceded many goals in their last four or five home games. It`s going to be a really tough encounter. We`ll have to battle hard and hopefully impose ourselves.’

Blackpool Team News:

McDonald will most likely remain with the same side of recent games with the only possible changes being at centre half, given Clark Robertson’s recent return to fitness and Will Aimson’s minor injury concern.

Pool failed to score in the last match, but with Jack Redshaw looking to be at his creative best in recent games and Danny Philliskirk scoring goals since his arrival, the two could continue to play as a striking partnership.

Player to watch: Jack Redshaw

The young forward has been pulling the strings for Blackpool’s attack recently and will likely be behind anything Pool create going forward.

Gillingham Team News:

Striker Cody McDonald will miss the game but Rory Donnelly is fit again and could start. Adam Chicksen also arrived back on loan and will likely feature.

Player to watch: Bradley Dack

The attacking midfielder has arguably been the best player in League One this season and has already scored 14 goals. Blackpool haven’t conceded much at home but the Gills star man will push Blackpool’s defence to the limit.

Match Facts & Stats

Gillingham won the earlier fixture 2-1.

Match Prediction:

1-0 Gillingham, it may be pessimistic, but I think Gillingham will be too strong for Pool. Let’s hope I’m wrong!

Next Fixtures:

Oldham (A)
