Blackpool were hammered at home by league leaders Walsall in an embarrassing display from the Seasiders.

A Romaine Sawyers double, a Clark Robertson own goal and a Sam Mantom header were enough to see off a poor Blackpool side.

Pool did start the game brightly and looked motivated and the first chance of the game fell to Henry Cameron who fired wide. However after 20 minutes Walsall started to get into the game and Pool looked to fade away, the Saddlers took the lead on 25 minutes when Sawyers got in behind the defence and knocked the ball past Kyle Letheren.

Pool managed not to concede again before the end of the half but were looking increasingly vulnerable.

Blackpool didn’t start the second half well and it was Walsall who were impressing, with the away side sealing their victory on 57 minutes when Clark Robertson dealt with Rico Henry’s cross dreadfully and sliced the ball past Letheren for 2-0.

Walsall went from strength to strength against a dire Blackpool side and Tom Bradshaw could of easily killed the game off but failed to beat Letheren. Though just minutes later Pool conceded another when Sam Mantom snuck in behind Emmerson Boyce and headed home.

The Tanerines were being absolutely torn apart and the fourth goal came on 74 minutes when Sawyers’ strike found the top corner.

In Pool’s 5th loss in a row, it was more apparent than ever just how far apart in quality Blackpool are compared to the better teams in the division. Much like last season, Pool simply don’t look good enough to compete and will struggle this season unless they bring in new faces. Though this is looking more and more unlikely to happen.

The Seasiders certainly look to be in for a long and tough campaign.
