Manger Gary Bowyer and Mark Cullen have given their thoughts following victory over Stevenage last weekend.
Making the trip to the Lamex Stadium for the weekend’s League Two action, Blackpool took a two nil victory with goals coming from Bright Osayi-Samuel and Cullen himself and for Bowyer as he spoke to the Official Site in his post game press conference, one of the most pleasing things from the day had been the impact that the substitutes had made on the match as the three points helped eek us back into the last Play Off spot.
‘It was a good advert for what we spoke about on Tuesday, the quality of the squad and the impact of the squad. To be able to turn around and use the squad was brilliant and I`m delighted for the pair of them.’
As for the two goalscorers on the day he went on to add.
‘It`s an area of his game that he needs to improve, Bright, and that was a wonderful first career goal from him. It was a memorable one for him. Mark Cullen has got his head down, worked ever so hard and he looked unbelievably sharp on Tuesday night. His desire to want to score a goal was what was needed today, and it proved right.’
Bowyer did go on to discuss the differing performances in each half and clearly the better second half display was what he wanted to see more of moving forward into the festive schedule and the second half of the campaign.
‘It was a difficult game, conditions weren`t and we weren`t great first-half, we didn`t make enough passes and didn`t play the way we have been playing, which was disappointing. We came in with a clean sheet at half-time and just spoke about one or two things that we wanted to improve on second-half, and I thought we did that.’
With the clean sheet and seeing the game out, that was certainly a positive he was going to take.
‘It`s something that we`ve worked on and spoken about and, again, credit to the players because they`ve actually gone out and implemented that.’
Adding about goalkeeper Sam Slocombe.
‘He`s been terrific in the sense that he`s made saves when he`s had to. One of the things we`ve spoken about is the need to keep clean sheets because we always feel that we can score goals.’
He ended with.
‘The aim at the start of the week was to get through in two cup competitions and to come here and win, and we`re delighted that we`ve done that.’
As for Cullen, in his own post game press interviews he was delighted to have played a telling part having come off the substitutes bench as he grabbed his first goal since August.
‘I had two disallowed at Doncaster but I didn`t let it affect me personally and luckily I managed to get one on Saturday for the lads. Whenever I play I always want to do well and it`s been a while since I got a goal so to get one is really pleasing.’
As for the game itself and the atmosphere in the group, he ended by saying.
‘There was a few mistakes with people slipping everywhere so we did well to overcome the circumstances. It`s a good atmosphere in there because it was a tough game and we`ve done well to get the three points. We can beat anyone and I`m confident if we keep our mentality right all season hopefully we can achieve something come the end of it.’
