Manager Gary Bowyer was delighted with the response of Blackpool in the weekend’s victory over Doncaster Rovers.

Reflecting on the ‘injustice’ of the result against Accrington Stanley in the last game, Bowyer was looking for a spirited response from the players and with a four two scoreline on the day, he was delighted with what he saw.

Especially as Blackpool came from a goal down at Bloomfield Road.

Speaking to the Official Site in his own post game press conference having seen goals come from a Brad Potts brace, Kelvin Mellor and Kyle Vassell, a delighted manager told the media.

‘It’s been a fantastic response from the players. You look at the injustice we suffered last week at Accrington and then to go a goal down with an own goal, they really could have felt sorry for themselves. They didn’t. We showed great character and great desire, and it shows you how much they’re fighting and how much they want to be part of success here.’

As for Vassell’s leveller on the day.

‘It was terrific. Kyle was immense today and I thought he was a real handful for them and a constant menace. He got the foul, put his hand on it quickly and played a great ball for a wonderful finish from Pottsy.’

Adding about Potts and his brace in particular.

‘He probably owed us that from last week to be perfectly honest to him. He’s got his head down, he’s carried on and the second one is a wonderful strike.’

There was also the penalty save from Sam Slocombe that helped us see the game out – and Bowyer felt justice was done there with the controversial call to award it.

‘he first penalty is just not a penalty and is getting really, really frustrating now. When they get the second one and Sam makes the save, it’s a big moment for us and it gave us even more belief that we could go on and win the game.’

There was also praise for Danny Pugh following his seven games out of the side.

‘We’ve missed his leadership, he’s been wonderful for us since he’s arriving. It was a blow when he got his injury and you saw today there was no way I was taking him off because he wouldn’t want to come off. It just tells you everything about him.’
