Defeat against play-off rivals Luton meant they consolidated their position in 5th but Blackpool dropped out of the top seven after this Bloomfield Road setback.
The form at home had seen us beaten only once prior to this 2-0 loss on Saturday with Gary Bowyer saying the big moments didn’t go Blackpool’s way. He’s quoted by the Official Website post-match as saying.
‘The key moments in the game haven’t quite gone for us today and that sums it up perfectly. Their goalkeeper made two great saves and they’ve been flying in for us. We were a little bit disappointed with the hand ball in the build up to their first goal but overall we’ve not hit the standards that we’ve been on.’
Bowyer went on to admit he didn’t think it was a particularly great game with the opening goal always likely to be important – the boss wasn’t pleased by the manner of the Luton opener either.
Adding Blackpool had lacked intensity.
‘That’s the first time where we’ve not looked like the team that we are, and that’s been disappointing. We’ve just had a quick discussion about that.’
If the first goal was important enough the timing of the second – just after half time – didn’t help at all. The boss criticised the defending for this and isn’t looking for a repeat anytime soon.
‘If you look at it, it’s poor defending from our point of view. We have to make sure that we cut that out very, very quickly and get back to winning ways. Performance levels have been terrific so far.’
Bowyer confessed the absence of Kelvin Mellor through illness was felt and said he’s hopeful Brad Potts isn’t going to be out for too long have lost a tooth and undergone surgery.
He concluded he’s looking for us to react positively in the upcoming games during the festive period.
‘We’ve always responded ever so well and it’s up to us to do that again.’
