Manager Gary Bowyer has reflected on a solid performance and victory against Notts County this weekend.

Hosting the side at Bloomfield Road for the game, Blackpool took a comfortable four nil victory with goals on the day coming from a Kyle Vassell brace, with further strikes from Colin Daniel and Jamille Matt.

Speaking to the Official Site in his post game press conference, a delighted manager explained.

‘It was a very good performance from us, and I still felt there was areas that we could be improving on and we’ll certainly work on that during the course of next week. But to score four goals at home and keep a clean sheet against a side that started the day in the play-offs was particularly pleasing.’

With Blackpool now being five unbeaten, Bowyer went on to say that he felt the team had now started coming together properly and whilst he certainly wasn’t getting carried away, the improvement he was seeing was definitely pleasing.

‘We’re not going to get carried away at all but, like we’ve been saying previously, you have to be sensible about this, it takes time. Things take time to build and we’ve said that. We’re far from the finished article at all so we’ve got to keep building on this.’

With the goal return on the day, obviously the strikers came in for praise.

‘I think the front two were a handful. We’ve spoken about them before, but I thought today they were a real threat. I’m delighted for them. I think you saw a massive, great strength of character from Jamille Matt because obviously at 1-0 he’s rounded the goalkeeper and missed that one, and he could have gone under. He didn’t, and that shows the character that he’s got and the character of the team because they really rallied around him.’

As there had to be a mention for Vassell who lifted himself onto ten for the season so far.

‘Anybody that gets double figures at this stage of the season has done well. We want more from him, and I think there’s more to come from him as well. He can only keep getting better. We forget how young he is – he plays the game so aggressively that you think he’s been around the game for a long time. He’s still only a young lad.’

Finally, with efforts at the other end of the pitch taking the headlines, Bowyer was also delighted with the defensive work on the day and the clean sheet.

‘We attack as a team and we defend as a team. It’s an old cliche but it’s true, that’s what we want and we want more of them.’
