Manager Gary Bowyer could hardly contain his delight at seeing the League Cup second round draw pit us against Premier League side Crystal Palace.
Having come through the first round stage with a four two victory over Bolton Wanderers, Blackpool were rewarded in the second round draw with a plumb – but tough – clash against Alan Pardew’s side at Selhurst Park.
Speaking to the Official Site after the draw was made on Wednesday evening, Bowyer said it would be a clash that he and the players should simply relish and with the pressure clearly not on Blackpool, we just look to put in a good performance and make the fans proud.
‘First and foremost, it’s a brilliant draw for us because it’s against a Premier League team. I’m all about testing yourself against the best and Alan Pardew is a fabulous manager and it will be great to go up against him. For our players to play against Premier League players, it will be a great night for us. I do feel sorry a little bit for our supporters because of the distance they’d have to travel midweek, though.’
He added.
‘We spoke about before the game the size of the squad and the impact that the squad could have this season, and we would answer some questions after the game on that. The players that came in certainly did answer the questions and it shows the togetherness that the group has got so quickly, which from my point of view was really pleasing.’
Full details for the game are yet to be confirmed but it will take place somepoint in the week beginning August 22.
