Gary Bowyer was once again left bemoaning Blackpool’s failure to see out a lead when Crewe were able to come back to secure a point against Pools on Saturday.
A 70th-minute leveller from Ryan Lowe saw Blackpool come away from Gresty Road with a point, which probably would have been taken ahead of the match but after a lead Bowyer once again told the Official Website not being able to ‘see the job through’ disappointed him.
However as this was probably our ‘worse performance’ so far he took the positives from that.
‘We get ourselves into a good position first-half and we’ve just got to make sure that we see the job through. We’re still giving goals away, soft goals, and that was the disappointing bit. To come here and take a point away from home with a fantastic following again – the supporters were terrific – we’re happy enough because I think out of all the games that’s our worst performance.’
Not taking chances and scoring a second goal were also costly, he added.
‘This is what we’ve got to find a remedy for very quickly. We’ve just had some harsh words in the dressing room some would say, but it’s just a bit of passion. They’ve got to know how serious we are. We said at half-time to go and get the next goal. We didn’t feel that we played to the potential that we’ve shown in the previous games to be honest.’
An injury to Sam Slocombe saw the ‘keeper forced off, which saw Dean Lyness brought on to make his first appearance for Blackpool since his return to the club.
Losing Slocombe was of course ‘disappointing’ but Bowyer finished by praising the performance given by Lyness.
‘That was disappointing but Dean came in and, bar picking the ball out of the net, I don’t think he had a great deal to do – he made one save in the second-half. He proved last season that he’s more than capable and that’s why we’ve brought him back to the club.’
