Out of contract Marlon Broomes could be set for a prolonged stay at recently relegated Crewe Alexandra.

That’s if Alex boss Gudjon Thordarson gets his way.

Thordarson, speaking to the local press, said: ‘Marlon did well for me last season and is very much in my mind.

‘Much will depend on the finances. It will have to be the right deal and these things can take time because managers are after the best deals for their clubs and the players are waiting for the right deal for themselves and their family.

‘It is never easy but there has to be a mutual respect there and I am sure when it comes to dealing with Marlon it will be dealt with in a professional manner.’

One thing seems certain – that Broomes won’t be plying his trade at Bloomfield Road next campaign.

The 31-year-old played just one game for The Seasiders last term after signing on a free from Stoke, and made quite an impact at Gresty Road.
