The Blackpool Supporters Trust received no response to their bid for the club from the Oyston family by yesterday’s deadline.
The BST had tabled a bid worth £23 million for the club made up of assets and the writing off of debts but with no extra money involved. The Trust were hoping for the bid to be respected and to receive a response but none was received.
In the official BST statement the trust said: ‘This lack of response is disappointing but not in the least surprising. The current owners have made it their strategy never to deal with the supporters on equal or respectful terms’ adding ‘BST`s leveraged bid was well thought-out and professional. It gave the owners an opportunity to resolve the crisis at the heart of our club. It also afforded them an opportunity to begin a genuine negotiation with the Trust.’
The BST have also made it clear that even though the bid has been ignored, the offer remains on the table and they still want to buy the club, stating: ‘We remain committed to discussion with the Oystons about a change in ownership or a change in the power structure at the club, to bring about a situation in which the fans have a real say in how our club is governed and how our money is spent.’
It’s certainly discouraging that the bid wasn’t at least dignified with a response and that there has been no word at all from the club on the bid. It was fairly obvious that the bid was not going to be accepted, but to be totally ignored is disappointing for the trust and the fans. Let’s hope the BST can be more successful in the future.
