The Blackpool Supporters Trust have responded to Owen Oyston’s rejection of their bid by telling the Blackpool Gazette his statement was ‘disrespectful and inaccurate.’
Blackpool Football Club released a statement on Friday evening informing the BST that Owen Oyston had called time on the extended deadline given to the Trust to answer questions he had posed to them.
Within the statement, Oyston said: ‘You are asking me to give you all the cash and assets and you have not even answered the basic questions I have to put to you.’
Adding: ‘I believe that if you were left to run the club it would go to the wall because you do not have any money or the experience necessary to support the club in its moment of need.’
‘From the many discussions I have had with large numbers of fans, it is clear that they have seen how I have been able to support the club through tough times and know I am in a position to do so in the future.’
‘I reiterate my admiration for your tenacity, enthusiasm, commitment and love for the Club. As I have said before, these are wonderful qualities which I share with you, but these alone are not sufficient to ensure the continuance of our Club.’
However the BST have responded to these claims and BST Spokesperson Christine Seddon told the Blackpool Gazette: ‘What was a surprise to us was his suggestion we didn`t answer the 10 questions.’
‘We answered the questions very thoroughly and got a lot of legal and professional advice.’
‘Owen`s claims were extraordinary really. It was a hugely disappointing statement, one which we felt was disrespectful and inaccurate.’
Protests continued on Saturday against Bury where banners and chants displayed dissatisfaction with the current ownership.
The BST’s pursuit of Blackpool Football Club seems to have hit a stumbling block with the Oyston’s keen on receiving cash in return for selling the club, unlike the BST’s bid which was mainly made up of assets.
Fans remain keen on new ownership but the Oyston’s seem determined not to sell, however the BST as well as part owner Valeri Belokon remain keen on owning the club in the future.
