Ben Burgess has claimed that he is in the dark over rumoured interest in him from League One rivals Leeds United and Leicester City.

Burgess who was Blackpool’s top scorer last season, netting 10 goals in 37 appearances, claimed: ” It is the first I have heard about it. I haven’t heard anything. It is the last year of my contract and there is a release clause, but the Leeds interest has not been mentioned.

” I suppose if it is true then it’s flattering. I was in and out of the team last year, but was top scorer, so that was alright and I had a decent year.

” We’re starting back pre-season training on Thursday, and I’m just concentrating on that. “

Blackpool Vital believes that both sides are prepared to fork out £200,000 for the target man’s services. On the face of it that would appear to be a tidy sum for a player who only cost the Seasiders £100,000 when he joined the club back in August 2006.

However with Keigan Parker now at Huddersfield, and Andy Morrell still mulling over a new one year deal Blackpool are currently extremely light in the striker department. If Burgess was to leave the likelihood of a deal for the Cameroon international striker Joseph Desire Job would seem even more likely. Which could explain why Simon Grayson has now decided to go public with his interest in the former Middlesbrough forward!
