Sky Sports are this morning reporting that out of contract Blackpool striker Ben Burgess is on the verge of signing for League One new boys Notts County.

Burgess has a one year option on his expired contract that Blackpool elected not to take up, although ‘Pool boss Ian Holloway did wish to speak to Burgess (and defender Rob Edwards, who finds himself in a similar position) about signing a new, modified contract that would take into account the fact that he’d be used sparingly in the Premier League.

However, it appears that Burgess has instead elected to move to Nottingham with the promise of first team football and team up with ex ‘Pool striker Lee Hughes.

Sky report that Burgess has a number of clubs chasing him, but the fact that he looks like joining a club only recently promoted to League One speaks volumes.
