Once again Gary Bowyer has said his overriding emotion following Blackpool’s draw with Carlisle on Saturday was ‘frustration’ despite Pools battling back from two-down to draw two-two.
Defensively Bowyer was very disappointment with what he saw telling the Official Website you can’t give sides such a lead.
‘The main emotion is frustration again, we can’t be giving teams a two goal head start, especially a team as strong as Carlisle. In terms of analysing the game, I think our first-half performance was the best of the season – with the number of chances we had first-half we should have been out of sight again. But we can’t keep saying that, we’ve just expressed to the players that we can’t keep saying the same things. The two goals we’ve conceded again are poor.’
However these emotions were also mixed with ‘pride’ too, adding the character shown to get back into it a ‘great strength’ to have.
‘There’s pride in terms of their character and spirit, they never know they’re beaten which is a great strength to have in this league, but it’s got to be us going in the lead and staying in the lead.’
The changes were ‘a gamble’ but in a game that was hading away from us were changes he was happy to take.
Jack Payne has been producing the goods on the training ground with his performance also drawing praise from Bowyer.
‘He dictates the play for us and I thought he was terrific in doing that, and gave the team a lot of confidence and belief in their ability. The work that goes in on the training ground, you see that again today.’
Bowyer concluded by admitting the absence of Danny Pugh from midfield, owing to a foot injury, was a blow with him missed. The hopes are he’ll be fit for the next match tough.
‘He’s got a little bit of bone bruising on his foot, which is a blow for us given the experience and leadership he brings. We’re hopeful that he might be fit for the next Saturday.’
