David Carney will sign for Blackpool today, if the Premier League sanctions the move, according to reports.

The FC Twente left back agreed to join the Seasiders late on Deadline Day with the official paperwork being faxed through to the FA and Premier League as late as possible.

As late as possible was bang on the deadline (or slightly later) at 6 o’clock.

Secretary Matt Williams said to Radio Lancashire that he hopes the PL are lenient: ‘Hopefully the Premier League looks favorably on our case.

‘We actually had the papers at the FA before the deadline and the ones to the Premier League were one, maybe two, minutes over.

‘I can’t believe that we’re the only business left in the world still deadline with fax machines!’

Carney himself would come with a bit of pedigree, having been a near ever-present for Australia since 2006.

It’s widely thought that the player has been generally under-used at club level after spells at Sheffield United, Sydney and Norwich.

He’s already played five games this season so will be fully match fit and ready to go straight into the Blackpool squad to face Newcastle a week on Saturday.
