Whilst Larry and the boys were unlucky not to pick up anything at Molineux, elsewhere there were some interesting games taking place. Here’s a round – up of yesterday’s action…

Barnsley 3 – 2 Plymouth
The home side raced into a three goal lead thanks to strikes from Ferenczi, Werling and Howard. But Ian Holloway’s men made the Tykes battle for their first win of the season, with Hayles’ and Chadwick on target for the visitors.

Bristol City 2 – 1 Scunthorpe
Last weekend’s oppenents won this battle of the promoted sides thanks to a Lee Trundle double. Martin Paterson had equalised for the away team.

Cardiff 0 – 1 Coventry
The Sky Blues impressive unbeaten run continued at Ninian Park after ex – Brentford midfielder Jay Tabb scored the only goal.

Charlton 3 – 2 Sheff Wed

A real ding – dong battle was won by the Addicks despite going two nil down after goals from O’Brien and Spurr for the Yorkshire outfit. Charlton responded with a Chris Iwelumo brace and a strike from Andy Reid to win the three points.

Hull 2 – 1 Norwich

Blackpool’s next oppenents in the league scored their first win of the season. Windass and Garcia scoring for Hull, with the evergreen Dion Dublin netting for the visitors.

Leicester 4 – 1 Watford

Despite being beaten by Pool at The Walkers on the opening day, the Foxes thrashed relegated Watford. Goals from Hume, Campbell, Sheehan and De Vries stung the Hornets whose consolation came from King.

Preston 0 – 3 Colchester

Without doubt the best result of the day came at Dungdale, with Colchester hammering PNE. Lisbie, Sheringham and Yeates’ piling on the pressure for Paul Simpson.

Sheff Utd 1 – 0 West Brom

£4 million man James Beattie headed the only goal at Brammall lane.

Southampton 3 – 2 Stoke

Stoke, with Pool target Andy Wilkinson starting, succumbed to their first league defeat, with The Saints chalking up their first win. Stoke’s scorers were Fuller and Parkin, with Surman, Rasiak and Viafara on target for the South coast side.
