A case of ‘too little too late’ perhaps as Blackpool’s slim chances of staying up haven’t been helped this season by the lack of chances taken when they’ve been created.
Neil McDonald knows the failure to take chances against Wigan proved costly with us punished as a result.
That four-nil defeat at Bloomfield Road wasn’t the first time though was it with the boss telling the Blackpool Gazette.
‘You have to score when you`re on top, especially when you play the top teams. We should have taken the chances we created and in the end we were heavily punished. The strikers can only be described as superb when they put the ball in the net. Too many times this season we`ve created plenty of chances and not taken them only to be punished at the other end.’
That defeat is one he knows we’ve had to ‘take on the chin’ despite losing a basic must win match.
Now, assuming we do win ourselves, we need Crewe to ‘do us a favour.’
Survival would be achieved if we beat Peterborough and Crewe beat Fleetwood, which in theory sounds easy but it practise it’ll be easier said than done and wouldn’t be something too many would expect.
If relegation is confirmed it would also be anticipated that McDonald will leave the club.
His appointment came with the job of keeping us in League 1, if someone else could have managed this is open to debate but he finished by saying he wasn’t thinking ‘beyond’ Sunday at this point.
‘I won`t be thinking beyond next Sunday. We have to try to lift the players this week. We have one game left and we`ll give it everything we`ve got.’
