Manager Lee Clark has said the future of the players is on hold until early May, after the game against Huddersfield Town.

With Clark talking pretty regularly about plans being under way for the new campaign and having roughly made his mind up on those players he wants to keep, he told the Blackpool Gazette that only Jose Cubero and Andrea Orlandi will be the players with their futures sorted ahead of the Huddersfield game and that was simply because we had to use Cubero’s option this month or we lost it, and Orlandi has proven himself to be a very key player for us.

Everyone else, he wants them to keep fighting for a future at the club until the very last day, even if he has an idea on what he wants to do.

‘I`ll have personal meetings with the other players on the Sunday May 3 after Huddersfield. From then we will be focusing on the following season and everything will be sorted. We can move on then and not have to suffer any longer. We may make the odd decision in the couple of weeks before Huddersfield, but the one-to-one meetings will be the day after.’

In total we have nine more players with additional club based 12 month options, but they include Bobby Grant, Gary MacKenzie and Jacob Mellis, so many won’t be optioned you would imagine. And then we have another 15 odd players completely out of contract so May 3 is going to be a busy day you would imagine.

‘We`ve chosen to do Andrea`s now as he`s been a big player for us. I think there will have been plenty of clubs in the Championship looking at him. It`s a big positive to have Andrea for next season. He`ll be a massive asset in League One. He`s been a good player for us this year and he can be a fantastic player for us next season. He makes and scores goals. He and Cubero will be key players next season.’

Clark went on to say that with Orlandi handed the captain’s armband, that in itself should tell fans how highly he rates the former Brighton player and in Clark’s mind he feels we can get another 40% out of the player when he is properly 100% fit.

‘I believe we can get another 40 per cent out of him when I get him super-fit. I know we can do that. With him and Jose we have two experienced players sorted for next season. Andrea came to see me on the coach back from Ipswich on Saturday to apologise for a mistake he made during the game. I respect that. I like what he`s about and he`s a tremendous technical player. He`ll cause big problems in League One.’
