Manager Lee Clark has said that he fully believes that Gary Madine will prove to be a huge additional to the squad in our battle against relegation from the Championship this season.

Having joined the club on loan from Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, he made his 30 minute debut as a substitute against Middlesbrough that evening and the gaffer told the Official Site that he was pleased with what he saw, so hopefully given time in training this week to get used to his colleagues, he would have a greater impact in our next game.

‘I was delighted with his contribution against Middlesbrough. I thought he won a lot in the air and showed his ability. I think he’s going to be a good signing for us. He’s come here on the back of a good loan spell out at Coventry where he’s scored four goals in 13 appearances. We’re hoping he hits the ground running for us.’

Clark admitted that he’d been following the 24 year old’s career for a few years since he made the breakthrough at Carlisle United and he did try to sign him when he was manager of Huddersfield but a deal couldn’t be done.

‘We think he can play an important part for us in the remaining games to help us try and achieve our goal. We did need strengthening at the top end of the field and we believe that with Gary we’ve got a player who gives us that.

With Nottingham Forest up next, Clark also knows it’s going to be an incredibly difficult game for us because since Dougie Freedman went in as manager, they have won the two games he’s been in charge for, scoring six goals in the process.

‘I think our performance warranted more than it got on Tuesday, we’ve got to continue with a lot of the good things we did in that game and push from there.’
