With Sunday being D-Day for the players as manager Lee Clark has meetings lined up for face to face discussions about the futures – and the departures of some currently on our playing staff – the work for the new season is well under way and the manager has said he’s hoping to have at least three quarters of his team lined up before things hot up in July and the players return for pre season training.

Speaking to the Blackpool Gazette Clark admitted that six odd offers were already out there for players but he won’t wait forever for answers.

‘We have spoken to the agents of five or six players and offered deals. It`s hard to say how close they are because until they are done anything could happen. But we have five or six deals we are really pushing on with.’

With last season’s slightly surreal pre season planning with signings left until the last minute, Clark said he simply won’t allow that to happen and whilst he may have to be patient with a couple of targets – and he’d be happy to be patient for them – the vast bulk of targets he has will have to make their mind up quickly if they want to be part of our League One rebuild because he’s made his plans with five players up for each position so Blackpool have the power, have the options and if anybody isn’t sold on his plan then he’ll move on to another option.

‘Some players want to sit tight and wait for better offers. But don`t come to Blackpool as a last resort – I won`t allow that. If that`s the case, I will just move on to other targets. I won`t be hanging around waiting for players because I have four or five for every position. I`m trying very hard to get as many players in as possible for June 29. It`s going to be tough but I`ve done it before.’

Clark goes on to say clearly by the beginning of July he won’t have his full squad as things are never that simple, but if he can have three quarters of it ready from day 1 of pre season training, then he has the freedom to add a few more players of quality that we will have to be patient with.

‘We may have to be patient with one or two.’
