Manager Lee Clark has called on the Blackpool team to pick up a much needed three points when we face Brighton and Hove Albion this weekend, but he also knows that a defeat for them drags them right back into the mix at the bottom of the table, which is an additional benefit to our own battle.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game, with Brighton perched above us in the bottom of the table battle, Clark knows we have the opportunity to make things tight at the bottom again and that’s what he’s hoping to see us do.

‘We knew that if we can get a win we’ll bring them back into the mix, and we can get the points difference back to where it was before the midweek games. At home we’ve got teams in and around us. We can make a huge impact on not only ourselves but also dent their opportunities to get out of the bottom end of the table.’

It will be a difficult game though, since Chris Hughton went in as their gaffer they have seen an upturn in results and arguably pushed Arsenal very close in their FA Cup fourth round tie the other weekend, losing three two in the end.

‘Chris is a very experienced manager and at Championship level has a very good record. They’re still trying to play the Brighton way in terms of coming out from the back and playing through the units. We understand it’s going to be a tough game.’

New loan signing Joe Rothwell is expected to be in the starting line up for the game following his arrival, and Clark’s hope that he can do the same for us that Jesse Lingard did for him at Birmingham City.
