Following reports on Sky Sports News and in the Blackpool Gazette, it would appear that Danny Coid is set to sign a new deal with Blackpool today.

Unlike his last few contracts, his new deal is expected to be a two year one and will stretch his professional career at the Pool to twelve years – a remarkable feat in today’s footballing world.

Coidy is one of the few success stories of our youth team in the last decade, having joined the set-up when he was 14. With new Pool boss Ian Holloway looking to bring through more youth players, Coidy’s story will no doubt give him a success story to point to the current batch of young players at the club.

Speaking about his new deal, Danny said ‘I’m really pleased to be getting it all sorted and to be staying at the club.

‘Everyone knows how much this place means to me.

‘I’m not one of those lads who needs to go around kissing the badge – I’ve been at Blackpool since I was 14 years old and the club means everything to me, it’s as simple as that.

‘It will be exciting going back and having a new manager in charge with new ideas.

‘Ian Holloway is someone everyone knows, and I’m looking forward to getting back to training and trying to impress him.

‘It’s nice that he wanted me to stay and it’s now up to me to get my head down, work hard and try to nail down a place in the team.

‘I want to have a really good season for the club and really enjoy my football, as well as helping Blackpool do as well as we possibly can in the Championship.’

Seasiders boss Ian Holloway appears to be a big fan of Coidy, having made two phonecalls to the player to convince him to stay at the club.

Holloway said: ‘I am delighted he has signed again for us because I have played and managed against him and I know he is a good player.

‘There’s always a risk when you let players go out of contract and there is a change of manager, so it has been a little bit difficult.

‘We’ve let a few players go but Danny was one I definitely wanted to keep. All the staff felt the same.

‘How can I describe him? He is loyal, a good player and he works hard.

‘He reminds me of Paul Connolly, a lad I was in charge of at Plymouth, and I am pleased Danny will be in my Blackpool squad next season.

‘I had a couple of chats with him on the phone and I can’t wait to get to work with him.

‘The one thing that has been clear whenever I have spoken to him is that he cares for Blackpool and that he wants to be here, and that is good enough for me.

‘I am confident that I can develop him as a player and that he will enjoy what we will do.

‘He is a tremendous kid and he will do well for us.’
