In our latest poll, we asked whether you thought offering Danny Coid a new contract was the correct decision?

44% of voters said he`s still an asset to the squad and handing Coidy a new contract was the right thing to do, whereas 17% implied that he`s deadwood and the club should be looking to get rid.

A large proportion, 39%, want Danny to stay but feel lesser terms should be agreed as the Liverpool-born versatility man just hasn`t figured enough in the team within the last two campaigns due to injuries.

The twenty-five year old has made 280 appearances for The Seasiders in varying positions, which include all across the midfield and either full back spot.

He`s seen four managers in his nine year stay at Bloomfield Road and was brought to the club by Nigel Worthington, who has recently taken over from Lawrie Sanchez as Northern Ireland`s manager.

Danny`s best years were when Steve McMahon managed to nurture his talent; and with The Tangerines playing flowing football, Coidy was right at home either at right back or in midfield. However when McMahon left the club, Danny`s career started to spiral. Colin Hendry took over at BFC, and immediately stated that Coid was a right back, and not the versatility man he was used as previously. In the first game that he started under Colin, Danny played on the wing in a 4-1 away defeat at Crewe! Mixed messages I wonder?

Even today the management don`t know his best position, and I firmly believe that this is down to previous managers saying one thing, and doing another, which will have affected his confidence.

He was ever present that season (04-05) and played a part in 42 games, but it was to be the 05-06 campaign that really showed signs that Coidy might not be one of the first names on the team sheet regularly like he had been for over half a decade. Injury cut short his season at Christmas, with only sixteen matches having his presence in. Also, his goal contribution to the team had all but stopped. Six goals in the 03-04 season were then followed up by just the solitary goal at home in the LDV for the next three seasons, and whilst he`s played nineteen times this year which highlights an improvement, the injuries go on, and a future without Danny Coidat Bloomfield Road could well be not so distant?
