Coidy is part of the wallpaper at Bloomfield Road. He has come through the ranks as a youngster and established himself in ten years at the club as Mr. Blackpool F.C.

Now he has made the step up to the Championship with his only club could we see the likeable scouser truly fulfill his potential?

Coidy’s versatility has been as much a hindrance as a help to his football career. Danny can and has played in numerous positions in his 260 plus appearances with BFC. Left back, right back, central midfield, right midfield and left midfield, Coidy has played all over the park. His development as a player has surely been hindered by his constant swapping of positions.

The popular 27 year-old (yes he is that old now!)has also struggled with injuries, particularly in the last three years.

Coid made just 15 appearances last season. He started at left back in the final game against Watford and produced an excellent performance given his lack of football throughout the season.

So what chance of Coidy cementing his place in the first team this season? Well, firstly many fans thought they had seen the last of Danny but Simon Grayson gave him a new deal in May. Danny certainly needs to repay Larry’s faith in him.

Coidy’s talent, technique and workrate, I believe, cannot be questioned. He has what it takes to compete in the Championship. The only problem lies in where he fits into the Blackpool team.

This could be solved if the expected departure of Kaspars Gorkss to QPR goes ahead. Larry may ask Shaun Barker, surely the club’s new captain, to play at centre back. Coidy could then compete with new signing Alex John-Baptiste for the right back berth, Danny’s supposed favourite position.

Danny has long been adored by Blackpool fans for his loyalty to the club. And for the man who scored Pool’s second goal in the LDV trophy win over Southend at the Millennium Stadium in 2004, a season of regular football with his club in the Championship would be just rewards for Mr. Blackpool.
