As the rumours suggested, Blackpool are indeed interested in Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck, with manager Ian Holloway confirming that the club have enquired about the youngster’s services.

However, Ollie admitted that he expects no joy out of his enquiry, with Welbeck likely to sign for penniless rivals Preston as manager Darren Ferguson looks to his daddy to help him out, despite pledging not to when he first became a manager.

Newcastle have also been linked with the player however, although interestingly Preston’s fans have been quick to write Welbeck off following his link to Blackpool, despite lauding him (and indeed Ferguson) as their saviour(s) last season. Fickleness eh?

Holloway was speaking at the Grass Roots Football Live event over the weekend, where he also confirmed that the club were looking at loans from abroad (the club can sign as many players from abroad on loan as they wish, provided that they are under 21), and that he was still yet to finalise his transfer budget for next season with ‘Pool chairman Karl Oyston.
