The Gazette have this morning poured cold water over The Mirror’s claim yesterday that Stephen Crainey has been offered £15,000 a week to stay at Blackpool.

The left back – who turned 30 yesterday – is in talks with the Seasiders about a new deal with his current one running out this month (but hasn’t been offered £15,000 a week, according to the Gazette), but he is also attracting interest from other clubs, both in the Premier League and Championship.

Goalkeeper Matt Gilks – also out of contract this month – has also been offered a new deal, and according to the Gazette, will make his decision upon his return from holiday.

In other contract related news, the Gazette also claim that the Seasiders elected not to take up their option to sign Luke Varney permanently because of his wages.

If you remember, the reason that we signed him on loan in the first place last summer was because we couldn’t/wouldn’t stretch to cover all his wages, and obviously getting relegated wouldn’t have helped matters.

Varney is now believed to be in talks with Portsmouth over a £750,000 move to the South coast.
