Sheffield United have sniffed around Steven Davies this season but, so far, the former Derby striker has stayed with Blackpool and we’ll have him back for the trip to Brentford tonight.

In all honesty I don’t think too many of us will be expecting a ‘great escape’ but our chances have been boosted by the news that we’ll have Davies back after he was forced to miss our draw at Blackburn, which of course followed the remarkable four-four draw against Nottingham Forest when he had such a big impact.

Lee Clark confirmed his return on the Official Website and knows what a ‘big boost’ the 27-year-olds return is.

‘We’ve got Steven back which is a big boost for us because we were down on numbers in attacking areas. It gives us the possibility of either starting with Steven or having him on the bench to come on and make an impact, like he did in the Forest game.’

Will it make enough of a difference for us to get something at Brentford? We’ll find out soon enough but we do know that Andrea Orlandi, Niall Maher and Nyron Nosworthy are all out but Clark also confirmed that he hopes to have Darren O’Dea available.

Get something and it would be, as Clark also said, a ‘psychological’ boost for us ahead of Wigan at the weekend and ‘great motivation’ for that game….
