Dear me, Mr Brown!

Hull City manager, Phil Brown has seen his side concede four goals and five points to Blackpool this season, but the former ‘Pool assistant manager still couldn’t help himself from having a patronising dig at Simon Grayson’s men over the past week.

Speaking to ‘The Gazette’ last week – talking about the Blackpool victory back in September – Brown stated: ‘I thought we were playing well enough to win. Caleb Folan, our record signing, got a horrendous injury and that knocked the wind out of our sails. Don’t get me wrong it was a good goal by Blackpool standards – but a poor goal defensively from our point of view.’

The metaphoric patting of the head is what we`ve all come to expect, but it really is not needed, and in fact probably spurs the team on! Why do Championship managers feel the need to put us down non-stop? Why is it that when we win a game, it is always the opposition who have played awfully, or had an off day? I’m not just talking about Phil Brown here – it is a trait throughout the division. How generous are the managers that beat us in, saying that we will definitely stay up – no problems? Well, they’re not really, are they!? The facts are that if we had beaten them, every excuse under the sun would have come out before the credited The Seasiders with the win.

After the 2-2 draw yesterday, the Hull boss said: ‘I thought this was a massive potential banana skin, but to get a point after we were 2-0 down shows great character.’

Quite an unbelievable remark, especially as The Seasiders lie just seven points and eight places behind The Tigers! It isn’t as if we’re Harrogate Railway (oh here we go, I’m at it now!) in the first round of the FA Cup. BFC are a team in the dead centre of The Championship, seven points away from relegation and also the playoffs.

Brown, who left along with Sam Allardyce in the 90’s after failing to gain promotion to what was then Division One with Blackpool, can be seen as quite a deluded character as well, and in another interview with The Gazette, said that: ‘I gave myself from 1994 to 2004 to do it (be a manager on the international scene) but it turns out I got it wrong.

I wanted to be England coach or a coach under an England manager or at another international club.’

The tangoman (that is Brown, not the forum member) certainly got it wrong? badly wrong; and it looks like Phil will have to pay out for some more sun bed treatments to keep that tan up instead of taking England to a World Cup!
