Manager Lee Clark has reflected on another bad night for Blackpool as we went down three nil to Charlton Athletic.

Charlton took the lead just after the half hour mark and it left Clark bemoaning that the team can’t mentally handle set backs in the game, so in many ways it wasn’t surprising to see The Valley outfit kick on in the second half and score another two goals to take the comfortable victory.

The frustrating thing for Clark though was that with so many attempts on goal, only getting four on target cost us especially as we had more possession on the night.

‘We’ve had far more territory and better situations in the first-half but we haven’t scored in four now and have had six losses on the bounce. The lads are shot to pieces when we get a setback. We’ve had more opportunities than them but we looked a team that was a little bit short of confidence in front of goal. We didn’t deserve to come in a goal behind but you’ve got to be able to handle the situation.’

Following that disappointment was the fact we gave away a poor goal for their second that really made it a mountain to climb on the night and in many ways the second goal killed it as a contest given our inability to score of late.

‘We gave away another really bad goal to make it two and from then things go downhill. All in all it’s another bad night. We’ve got to have a new mentality and that will come from the first day of a pre-season. We might have to get as many new fresh faces in as we can with a new mentality, ones who have had experience of promotions and been involved with successful teams at various levels.’

Clark goes on to say that it’s not just this season that has been ‘horrendous’ for fans, he feels it’s been that way for two years and simply put the fans deserve more and he’s determined to give them that, but he needs time.

‘When I look back on the results of the last two years it’s been an horrendous time for the supporters of the club. I’m determined to turn it around. We’re at the bottom of the well and sometimes when you’re at the bottom things have to change for the better. We’ll have things in place.’
