In midweek, the third round draw for this years EFL Trophy was conducted and here’s how the balls fell.
The headlines from the draw see current League One leaders Scunthorpe United travel to Oxford United, whilst Wycombe Wanderers face a 430 mile round trip to Blackpool.
Coventry City – who polled their lowest ever home crowd for a first team fixture in their second round tie against Crawley Town – now host Under 23 side Brighton and Hove Albion at the Ricoh Arena.
And five other Under 23 sides remain in the competition following this years trial.
The full draw is as follows:
Mansfield Town v Walsall or Oldham
Luton v Chesterfield
Oxford v Scunthorpe
Blackpool v Wycombe
Cheltenham or Leicester U21 v Bradford
Yeovil v Southampton U21 or Reading U21
Coventry v Brighton U21
Swansea U21 v Wolves U21
Round three ties are set for the week commencing January 9 – but Cheltenham v Leicester City’s second round tie takes place that week as well owing to a postponement given their Champions League schedule this season.
The other ties still to be finalised see Walsall host Oldham Athletic next Tuesday, with Southampton and Reading’s Under 23 clash taking place on December 21.
