Wonga have agreed a new two-year sponsorship deal with Blackpool.

The loan company, who recently announced their partnership with Newcastle United, will begin their new contract at the start of the 2013/14 season at Bloomfield Road.

They will remain the home and away shirt sponsor, and told VitalFootball that they were keen not to ‘ditch’ the Seasiders following the deal at Newcastle.

Citing a ‘fairytale story and a charismatic manager’ as the main reasons behind their initial interest in the club two years ago, Wonga have forged a healthy relationship with supporters and the town.

No financial details were disclosed to us, but the deal has been the most lucrative in Pool’s history thus far.

The business has been widely derided in the press following their move to rename St James’ Park, amid unsubstantiated concerns at the company’s ethics.
