Blackpool stand in manager Barry Ferguson has defended goalkeeper Matt Gilks after his error in judgement which led to the penalty that gave Bournemouth the lead at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.

Just after the second half started Gilks rushed off his line and fouled Lewis Grabban who then converted the penalty.

Ferguson told Blackpool Gazette at the weekend “I don`t mind if someone makes a mistake and gives a goal away or has a bad touch.

“What I can`t accept is people not giving 100 per cent.

“Gilo made a mistake but he`s saved us loads of times before. The mistake doesn`t bother me. I just want everyone to give 100 per cent.

“Yes, it was a crazy mistake but it happens. I`ve been in the game long enough to know that.”

The good news for Blackpool is that right back Tony McMahon is back from his 2 game suspension but Robinson is still out and Foley has suffered a dislocated shoulder in the second half on Saturday.
