David Ferguson has been named as the new Blackpool captain for the upcoming season.
The left back, who has made only 10 appearances for Blackpool, was signed from Sunderland in January by former boss Lee Clark and was one of Pool’s better players last year in what was a miserable season. His finest moment came when he scored the equaliser in the 4-4 draw against Nottingham Forest.
McDonald clearly sees Ferguson as a key player for the side next season and despite his inexperience in senior football, sees him as the man to lead Blackpool next season. Although Ferguson has only played for Blackpool since January, he is one of the only current players who has made several first team appearences for the Tangerines, perhaps a key factor as to why McDonald chose him.
Ferguson has impressed in pre-season and will most likely lead the side out for the first time this weekend against Colchester.
Experienced goalkeeper Colin Doyle has also been named as club captain, with Ferguson acting as team captain. Doyle will likely provide the experience around the club whilst Ferguson will be the key player and leader on the pitch.
