Goodbye Evo, or Au Revoir?

So the retention list is out. As ever, a source of speculation and intrigue and a talking point or two. The big Seasiders story is the release of Ian Evatt. As things stand, we have seen him in Tangerine for the final time. At first blush, a shock, but closer scrutiny suggests that the club has some doubt over Evo’s fitness and ability to fully recover from his injury which thus far has lead to a 9 month lay off. In fairness, if he was being transferred to us, would he pass a medical? With the club having lost 9 months of him, the caution seems understandable. Let’s hope his Summer of further rehab and perhaps pre season at Squires Gate gives the club the reassurance to give him a further year.

The others on the list – well, no major surprises – Bruna, Bignot et all, it just never happened. Grandin – what a waste, a precocious talent who was not out of place in the Premier League, but 3 managers have reached the same conclusion – lack of commitment. Gomes – well he Certainly had skill, possibly a lack of end product, but it would have been good to see another year bring him to fruition.

Others of course are out of contract. They will try and see if there’s a better offer, with the likes of GTF looking for longer deals on what will in all likelihood be a final playing deal.

With options exercised, the basis is in situ, though of course the likes of Ince and Phillips still liable to transfers out. In short interesting times ahead. Vital will hold back on a full Evo tribute, a funny feeling says he will be back.
