According to several media reports up in Scotland overnight, Blackpool have made a fresh move to sign Dundee United striker David Goodwillie after the rape charges against him were dropped yesterday.

‘Pool have been long time admirers of the 22 year old striker, and have in the last twenty four hours made a renewed attempt to get their man according to several reputable sources north of the border.

Initially BBC Scotland were reporting that both ourselves and Rangers had made bids for Goodwillie, but that around a dozen clubs were interested in the hitman in total. However, The Herald and The Scotsman both claim that Rangers’ bid – believed to have been £1 million – has been rejected.

The papers also report that whilst Cardiff had struck a deal for the player earlier this summer, the Bluebirds were not prepared to wait as Goodie’s court hearings dragged and have already signed several strikers (including Kenny Miller and Rob Earnshaw), meaning that they could now be out of the picture.

Indeed, both The Herald and The Scotsman believe that ‘Pool are now the frontrunners for the player (something that we here at Vital reported several weeks ago), with chairman Karl Oyston having been in contact with The Arabs regularly over the summer and in a position to pay their £2 million asking price, and pay it all upfront as he looks to conclude a deal swiftly to offset the loss of DJ Campbell who is widely expected to leave Bloomfield Road before the week is out.

With Ian Holloway known to be looking at other striker targets as we could be looking at a very interesting ten days before the season kicks off away at Hull next Friday night!

I think if you get him for £2million you will be potenially getting a bargain as he has all the attributes to play in the Premiership – he is strong, has great technical ability, scores with both feet and his head and his team play has come on massively in last 18 months. If he settles welll, you will easily at least treble your money on him….
