Holloway Targets Loans

In an interview hardly likely to suprise or inspire the Pool faithful, Ian Holloway has admitted that he is looking to add to his squad by bringing in young Premiership loanees.

Of course, last season the club went crazy in the loan market, to the extent that the number of players on loan pretty much outweighed the number of players on permanent contracts. A repeat of this may not sound ideal to fans, but Holloway could be forced down that route due to a budget shortfall caused by Simon Grayson’s excessive spending last season.

In his interview, Holloway admits that the key area he wishes to strengthen is central midfield, where Keith Southern is left as the only professional on the club’s books.

Holloway said: ‘It is the main area to strengthen, though David Vaughan can step inside and solve one problem.

‘It has been well documented that we have attempted to sign Charlie Adam and that is ongoing, though we are yet to find out whether we’ll be successful.

‘I have put lots of calls in to borrow individuals from top clubs who may not need them.

‘They will be slightly younger than the golden age-group of 24 to 29 but hopefully they will have the quality because they belong to quite famous clubs. We also have to strengthen the wide areas.’
