Hull or Bristol for the Premier League

Bristol City will meet Hull City at Wembley to decide who will play Premier League football next season.

Bristol beat Crystal Palace 4-2 on aggregate. While Hull hammered Watford 6-1 over the two legs, four of those goals coming at the KC stadium last night.

Many Pool fans will not be surprised to see Watford eliminated after the Hornets’ average performance against the Seasiders in the last game of the season.

Bristol City’s performance throughout the season has surprised everyone in the Championship. After coming up from League One with Scunthorpe and ourselves, City have remained consistent all the way through the campaign. Despite many suspecting City would slip up Gary Johnson’s side have defied the odds to reach Wembley.

It is interesting to compare the fortunes of the three promoted teams this year. As City prepare to take on Hull for a place in the Premier League, Scunthorpe head straight bak to League One. The Mighty have another season of Championship football to look forward to, meaning all three clubs could be in different leagues next season.

But who would have thought that Hull and Bristol City would be competing the play-off final? Early in the season both sides visited Bloomfield Road with Pool drawing 1-1 with Bristol and beating Hull 2-1 in the last minute. In fact the Tangerines took four points off Phil Brown’s side this season.

The final looks to be too close to call with both teams in fine form. Bristol City do have a habit of capitulating in the play-offs so I will go for a narrow win for Hull.

Whichever of the 2 go up. If they manage to stay up then surely that gives the rest of the clubs in the Championship hope for the following season, as it stands Derby are the benchmark for a promoted side, and boy will they be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
