In breaking news tonight, Ipswich Town manager Roy Keane has confirmed that his striker Jon Stead is discussing personal terms with Blackpool after the Seasiders’ bid of around £200,000 for the player made late on Monday night was accepted by the Tractor Boys.

Stead is one of eight players on the transfer list at Portman Road, and it would appear that Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has made his move for the 27 year old striker after the player rejected a move to Bristol City.

Speaking tonight about Stead, Owen Garvan and Alex Bruce (the latter two who are both also on the transfer list), Roy Keane said:

‘Garvs is talking to Crystal Palace, Alex is speaking to Leeds and Jon Stead’s been speaking to a club today, Blackpool, but there’s another club interested in him as well.

‘A fee has been accepted for all three and we have given them permission to talk to the clubs. It’s up to the players now to agree a deal.

‘We gave them permission to speak to the clubs and it’s up to them to agree. I’m not really up to date on if they’ve signed or agreed anything.’

At present it is not known who the second club chasing Stead is, but the Seasiders are believed to be in pole position to sign the player.

Stead began his career at Huddersfield, and has since played for Blackburn, Sunderland, Derby, Sheffield United, Coventry and Ipswich.

He also has 11 caps for the England Under 21s and has scored a total of 68 goals in 290 appearances (in all competitions).

£200k is very good business, he has a touch of class Stead. He seems to of lost his way in the last few years, maybe we can rejuvanate his career – but I suppose every manager who has signed him recently has thought that. Its not a marquee signing by any means but for that money you can’t really lose especially a player with PL experience.
