After several Blackpool fans emailed the Football League after referee Andy Haines failed to award the Seasiders a penalty in the closing seconds of Saturday’s defeat against Leicester, the authority have responded by admitting that the official made a mistake.

The Football League statement reads:

‘Having reviewed the incident in question, our head of referees (Dave Allison) acknowledges that a penalty should have been awarded in this instance.

‘This is supported by the match assessor who was in attendance and it will be reflected in his report.’

As The Gazette state though, the admission will only add to the frustration for Blackpool – the penalty may well have seen them scrape a draw, whilst Adam’s subsequent booking for diving meant that he got a two game ban and missed last night’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday and will miss Saturday’s game against Preston.

If only you could appeal yellow cards…
