What has been happening in League One this past week?
13th January:
Blackpool: The Tangerines carried on their great run of form as they beat Port Vale 2-1 at Bloomfield Road. A goal from Andy Morrell and a deflected David Fox effort were enough to seal the victory – even before Akpo Sodje scored a late penalty.
Bournemouth: Kevin Bonds` side lost away at Gresty Road to Crewe 2-0 with goals from Luke Varney and Nicky Maynard. The victory was Dario Gradi`s first in seven.
Bradford City: After an indifferent period, The Bantams came out with a credible draw at home to high flyers, Swansea City. A last gasp penalty from Dean Windass was enough to secure a point after he`d given Bradford the lead in the first half. His earlier strike was cancelled out by two Swansea goals, courtesy of O’Leary and Akinfenwa, but Windass got his goal after being fouled by goalscorer O’Leary who was dismissed.
Brentford: The Bees are struggling at the foot of the table and drew two each with relegation threatened friends, Leyton Orient. Twice Brentford equalised through Charlie Ide after Ibehre and Connor had put Orient ahead.
Brighton: The Seagulls lost 1-0 to Millwall after a Darren Byfield goal settled the game and meant Albion lost their sixth game on the spin.
Bristol City: City came back from two down to defeat Tranmere. The bindippers had raced into a two nil lead through Paul McLaren and a McCombe own goal. This however was wiped clean in the second half when Showunmi 48, Jevons 59 and Myrie-Williams 68 scored to give City the points.
Carlisle United: Transfer listed Andy Kirk and Scott McGleish(2) got goals for Northampton against Carlisle to put themselves 3-0 up before Danny Graham (yes, that Danny Graham!) and Kevin Gall scored to make for a tense finish. The Cobblers took the points though, and Carlisle are beginning to lose touch with the play offs.
Cheltenham: Town lost to Huddersfield 2-0 after goals from Luke Beckett (his first for 3 months) and Terrier legend, Andy Booth.
Chesterfield Town: Town beat struggling Rotherham United 1-0 in a poor match at Millmoor. Caleb Folan with the only goal in a game dominated by the visiting side.
Doncaster Rovers: Rovers played Gillingham and won 2-0 thanks to goals late on by Brian Stock and Jason Price. The win moves Rovers two points behind 6th with a game in hand.
Nottingham Forest: In the game of the day, Forest beat Yeovil one nil through a Grant Holt goal. Manager Colin Calderwood later hailed Holt in his post match interview.
Oldham: The Latics scored a late equaliser against Scunthorpe United to secure a point at Glanford Park. A Shaun Gregan own goal (always nice to see!) gave Scunny the lead, but Gary McDonald scored with the last kick of the game for the visitors. United had had two men sent off also.
Transfer News
Bradford City: The Bantams have rejected a bid from Derby County for midfielder Jermaine Johnson for around 250K.
The club has also signed Carlos Logan on loan from Darlington for a month. Todd told City’s website: ‘Carlos is a highly thought of youngster. He is a very tenacious boy and a natural left-sider, which is what we need.’
Bristol City: The Robins have signed defender Brian Wilson from Cheltenham for an undisclosed fee.
Carlisle United: Carlisle boss Neil McDonald is hoping star striker Karl Hawley will stay with the club by signing a new contract.
Gillingham: Winger Matt Jarvis has played down fears that he is leaving. The club extended Ben Chorley`s loan from MK Dons until the end of the season.
Millwall: Striker Neil Harris has rejoined his old club Millwall from Nottingham Forest on an 18 month contract. ‘There is something special about this club, it brings out the best in me as a player and a person,’ said Harris.
Oldham: Promotion-chasing Oldham have completed the permanent signing of Sean Gregan. Ah well?.
Port Vale: Barnsley have agreed terms to sign striker Leon Constantine from League One side Port Vale.
Scunthorpe United: Striker Andy Keogh has rejected a new deal at the club, with his current one expiring in the summer. He stated that ‘It’s not what I was looking for. I’ll keep my options open.’
Swansea City: The Swans signed Richard Duffy from Portsmouth until the end of the season on loan. He left Swansea for Pompey a couple of years ago.
